Curing frequency & time for footing, column etc

Post by tendlu »

How much of curing needs to be done for footing and columns? I mean frequency and how long?

Can one do the footing and then immediately start with column and then cure them at the same time? In other words, should one do one at a time -- do the footing and then cure it (frequency and length of time) and then do columns?

Hi Tendlu,

Your footings seem to have been quite sometime back. Did you get some answers for the query above. Please share for how long n how frequently curing for your footings and columns was done.

At our site, footings were covered with back fill after 3 days and curing is being done by pouring water on the back filled sand, keeping it moist most of the time. I sincerely hope this serves the purpose well and we ll have the required strength for the footings.

curing time for frequency per day and how many days:

always do 3 times a day (if weather is not hot, then 2 times is OK too)

PCC - 1 day (2 times)
footing - can be done along with column starter
column (can be do this along with the footing) - (3-4) days for starter and then 15-20 days before taking any load (roof slab)
foundation SSM - 3-4 days before soil filing and then after soil filing 10 days to 2 weeks. method should be -- soil, water then soil, water and this continues for 10 days or so...
plinth beam - 1 week
roof slab - 14 days
walls - 10 days (this can be build once column is done - dont have to wait for column curing to be done)
plastering - a week

My experience ( without reading technical books )

Irrespective of the kind of cement work
First 3 days of curing is very important (I would recommend 6 times a day if you can afford)
next 10 days 3 times a day
next 5 days 2 times a day.
(this is not an formula , but a guide line of how/when curing will be effective)

Masons/Contractors have their own reason for not curing for the first one/two days ( to complete their work) - DO NOT OBLIGE
