Dear all,

I have noticed people wont do the flooring (vitrified/granite/marble whatever) for the wardrobe designate area and also create a 4 inch or less thick base for wardrobes. Some do complete flooring without any base for wardrobes. Just build their wardrobes over the exisiting floor and no thick cement or concrete base. No lofts above wardrobes or lofts in kitchen. Everything will be handled with interiors.

My queries are as
1. Which of the above options are good and why {with thick base or without}
2. Without lofts in kitchen will these anchored/screwed ply/wood boxes will hold the weightsfor long or is it only for decorative
purpose and low weights?? Are there any methods to make it strong to hold weights?

There is no right or wrong answer. Here's what we did:
1. For kitchen where there is 100% certainty that wardrobes/cabinets would be done, granite flooring was left off. This area was finished with concrete with level cement finishing. Cabinet boxes were done by carpenter over that.
2. For bedrooms sometimes the idea of location/size of wardrobes could change (it did happen in two rooms while carpenter started the work), we did the flooring everywhere and carpenter made wardrobe boxes that were put on top of flooring.

Giving 3-4" base is not mandatory. Either going for a base or giving Ply Base for Wardrobe, As per my knowledge, provides below advantages.

1) gives one level of protection from water flow from rest of the area.

2) Same way of protection from insects/germs/...etc.

Lofts provision in Kitchen need to be decided on case to case basis based on the Quantity of storage area requirement keeping the total Kitchen area in mind.
It should not become an area for keeping Legacy items for ever thinking someday it may come to use. Better dispose of old items and unused items at regular
intervals for space optimization. Its always wise to use optimized storage area only for regularly used item, so that it helps in Initial investment cost, more
open space & avoids safe zone for Cockroaches/insects....etc.

Also Lofts near the cooking area gets dirt easily with oil vapor and dust accumulation over a period of time and hence it needs frequent cleaning
activity to maintain clean & better look.
