Hi guys,

We have a sump of 8 feet depth and 5x5 feet width and in need to put a motor(preferably not submersible). I've heard of Taro, Sharp, Vguard motors.
Tank is on 2nd Floor roof top with a small elevation upwards of around 5 feet high from 2nd floor roof. And on top of that tank is kept. My plumber said 1 HP motor is needed. Is this ok or half HP motor will pull water from ground floor?
Was going through taro motor website and when i see the below link, they have used so many technical terms for different motors. Which one technically, should we choose?

Submersible pumps are more suited for borewell where you need to pump from more depth/height.

In all chances you need to pump for around 50 ft height. Single phase monobloc pumps are good enough.

1) 0.5 HP generally comes with 0.5" pipe diam, takes more time to fill your Over head tank. Costs around Rs. 2,500/

2) 1.0 HP motor comes with 1.0" pipe dia which takes lesser time to fill your tank. Costs around Rs.3,500 or more.

Thanks very much msn1270. I enquired for Taro brand single plast monoblock motor at an Authorized dealer of Texmo products on SJP Road and they are quoting Rs.4400/- for aluminum body and Rs.7600/- for Cast iron body. Does aluminium body lasts if covered properly?

generally its called Mini Monoblock or self priming mono block pumps.
Prices mentioned for your enquiry must be MRP. I don't think selling prices will be that much.
Better visit SP/SJP Road personally and get the pricing info.

Thanks very very much msn1270. But when asked they said price is inclusive of tax, meaning its there selling price. Will visit this saturday to SP road and enquire.

Thanks very much msn1270. I purchased Taro 1/2 HP motor for Rs.3500/- from Authorized dealer of Texmo Industries in Bommanahalli. It comes with 2 years warranty as compared to 1 year from all other branded/reputed manufacturers.

Texmo is a well known brand. But what i have heard is most of these get manufactured by same suppliers in Coimbatore, each manufacturer having their own acceptance criteria.

In our house we have 2 sumps, for the older sump we have been using a suguna(I think, since the label is fallen off) monoblock (0.5HP) for ages (more than 15+years).. and have not had an issue with it yet. And for another we are using a taro pump, this has been of a more recent one (around 5years), again has been issue free .
The only maintenance needed for both has been the replacement of the electrodes of the water level controller.

Advantage of a ground based monobloc would be
a) substantially lower cost
b) easy to extract and maintain
Disadvantages
a) Need a pumphouse/housing and ensure no waterlogging occurs
b) Wastage of space
c) you know that there is a motor in action... somewhere... there is a mild hum that seems to travel...

Advantage of a submersible monobloc would be
a) No Wastage of space, uncluttered.
b) Hardly any noise from the motor.
Disadvantages
a) substantially higher cost (for 0.5 Texmo would cost around 7K )
b) Repair would mean that the pump has to be extracted from within the sump (imagine a full sump and the pump conks out! One would ahve to hire an external pump OR hire a diver )
c) care has to be taken during installation to ensure that the pump is set up in such a way as to not run empty And ensure good waterproof wire joints.
