Hi All,
My contractor is charging Rs 750 extra per step to make it a chained staircase (Eg shown in the link below)

(Im not planning for wooden stairs, But Im planning for a similar design)
Has anyone tried such stairs? Does it really cost so much ?

Chained steps cost @ 1000/ step - Materials are excluded. The reason is that they have a very specific centring plate & the bar bending work is cumbersome too. Infact the major cost is the centring plate. If you could negotiate this....you might settle down for a lower price.

My engineer is also constructing a similar staircase for my house. What I have agreed is that I will be sharing 50% of the cost involved for having this constructed.

Actually for me it was decided 600/- extra per step for curved chained stairs.
But now he is telling the below charges what he has to pay to other agencies (Centering and Bar Bending):-
1.) Centering - 750/- per step
2.) Bar Bending - 600/- per step
Don't know how far he is true????

try to get the barbending rate to ~300 and centering rate to arnd 600.
I had to pay 250 for barbending and 500 for centering for chained stairs (but not circular)

I had paid Rs.500 per step for the centring and the lumpsum amount
I had paid for the second roof barbending work included the chain link work also.
Barbending person did not create any fuss about the chain link step work.

Thanks keerthi.blr and sholla ..
But in my case am not dealing separately with Centering and Bar Bending, this amount is what my Labor Contractor is asking from me now...
So was just confirming if he is not fooling me because before getting the contract (just 4 months ago) he showed me his recently constructed house as an his "Piece of Work Demo", and that house had curved chained stairs for which he told he will charge 600/- extra per step apart from his per square feet charge for construction.
Don't know how can the price shoot up from 600 to (750+600) within 3-4 months....????
