Pillar construction do walls need to be aligned ?

I was thinking that for pillar construction, unlike load bearing walls, the walls on the first floor and ground floor need not be aligned. But one of my colleagues says that , even in pillar construction, most of the walls need to be aligned. Is that the true? In that case what is the real benefit in going for pillar construction ?

Hi
Pillar construction has a simple rule of beam must be below 9" wall and 4.5" walls can be any where.
There no load transferred through walls but the self wt of wall need to be transferred to the nearest column.
