Cauvery Water Tribunal has not allocated any water for Half of Bangalore. The tribunal has allocated 8.75 TMC of water for all the cities, towns and villages of Karnataka that are in the Kaveri river basin. (Although 10 TMC is given to TN for "environmental purposes" every year). Bangalore alone is using up 18 TMC of water. Obviously, the karnataka gov't is stealing water from some farmers to cater to the drinking needs of Bangalore. I dread to think what would happen if some one goes to court on this. Somepeople make money creating the infrastructure and the Tribunal might turn off the tap.
"There is no way of increasing the drawal from Cauvery as the allocation by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal for the entire urban and rural population in Cauvery Basin in Karnataka is only 8.75 TMC ft. As one TMC (thousand million cubic)ft equals 78 MLD, Bangalore city is already drawing more water—1,400 MLD equals 18 TMC—than the allocation for the entire rural and urban population in Cauvery basin. Besides, Bangalore city falls under two basins, Cauvery and Pennaiyar basins. Only Cauvery basin area can receive Cauvery water and half of the Bangalore is outside it."

River water cannot be a source of urban water needs anymore. Population growth in metro areas vs available water equation is simply unsustainable. We can't fight mathematics. What Bangalore ( and other metros in India need ), is man made lakes to harvest and supply rain water. If the British can do this 300 years ago in India, we can do that now.

NaduNudi,
If you click on the link i provided and point the mouse pointer on the map, it gives sub-division name at the top of a pop-up window. Now, you need to click the required sub-division on the left hand side of the page. For example NW3 for Peenya Industrial Area. This opens up a separate window in which a blue colored area which will be marked in NW3 sub-division which is nothing but Cauvery stage 4 covered areas.
Hope it helps.
