Decided to use red bricks instead of blocks.
Could you please give me some details which brand of red bricks is the best?

Where are the suppliers located ( towards Marathalli side) ?
Any precautions to keep in mind while using red bricks ?

what is the average days for curing of roof ?
Is it safe to start constructing walls after curing for 4-5 days (the water will be retained in the roof for several days)

HI Pooja,

Nice to know that your house is at roof stage. Normally 21 days is the time frame people cure the roof with water.
By the way, which is the red brick you have used ? Any pics of them and where did you source it from?

My engineer says that construction can resume after 4-5 days but need to make sure ponding is done in the roof portions for atleast 2 weeks. If that is not possible for some portions of roof where mortar is prepared or materials kept, manual curing 4-5 times should be done.

For first roof I was very paranoid and asked centering to be removed only after 19days. From second roof onwards, centering was removed after 15days and construction work was started within a week after concreting

A side question on the roof rods:
In the large span roof, it seems that rods are not cranked. Instead a concealed beam seems to be provided. Did you get structural engineer to check the rod placement?

Thanks for the info.
Red brick is sourced from the local dealer. I am unable to give more information as we are not in India. We are based in Canada. Given for contract to build our home. The brick is purchased from from local dealer at Rs 5.50/brick. I can check with the contractor if you really need more info about the manufacturer etc.,

thanks for the info. I checked with the contractor about the concealed beam, he said they have taken care of all the necessary requirements. I hope they have done a good job.

The steel for roof should be either cranked or top rods along the beam should be used.As per pics i don't see both .Please check the steel details before proceeding further .Concealed beams are use to take care of wall loads across the slabs ,cranking is done to take care of compressive stress.
There is nothing to be worried but be careful in the other slabs and get the steel checked from a structural consultant .

They call it as bombay mat, where they do not crank the rods. they pass the rods completely till end to end. They say some savings on steel can be done using this method.

update :

- finished 7 feet wall on the first floor and doing lintel work. Some places walls have risen to higher heights.
- I think by next weekend planning for the next roof.
- if you have any suggestions after seeing the pictures, please share.
