Lot of people are makin a big deal about laying charges for granite, of course granite needs more work to be laid

Good quality granite - 100rs psf (includes transport half tax, etc) u have to bargain for half tax
Loading / unloading - 3rs psf
Wastage - 5%-8% approx (mainly during transport / loading unloading) and also little during cutting
Laying charges is 25rs psf
Nosing half nosing same 25-30 rs psf (u don't nose the granite everywhere only in steps corners etc)

Overall on an average with above rates it works out to be 140-150 rs psf

Assume ur flooring area is 3000 sq feet keep 150 it will cost u 4.5 lakhs

Take vitrified tiles, if u go for 55rs tiles u can expect them to be damaged within a year , u have to go for 110-120 rs double strong branded tiles for good performance, add laying charges etc it will work out 40-50k cheaper than granite, but see the value for money nd durability , granite scores

Comparing Granite with Vitrified tiles is like comparing apples to oranges.

Granite is a hard and durable stone and will last you a lifetime. I am about to start construction of my house and I am only going for Italian marble and Indian/imported granite even though I do not manufacture marble and few of the varieties of granite which I want in my house in different rooms. In my opinion, vitrified tiles never give me the aesthetic natural look and the hint of luxury that granite/marble carry with them.

TN, AP and KA are rich in natural stones and granite is cheap here in Bangalore and surrounding places compared to any other parts of India due to multiple granite manufacturing units in the surrounding areas. Good vitrified tiles might cost you almost same or more than granite in Bangalore. My contractor gave me an option of tiles in bathroom and quoted Rs 160 for that including labor

Also I don't like so many joints between tiles which will accumulate dirt over the period and will change the looks of the floor entirely. My eyes gets stuck to those edges rather than looking at the tile and it is difficult to clean and get rid of those. Granite/marble being available in big slabs, once laid, they are seamless and the natural patterns are amazingly mesmerizing plus they are very easy to clean/maintain. Breaking/chipping of tiles is a normal norm and if you place heavy object on them, tiles might break, again you have to invest your time and money in fixing those.

Only laying of granite is a bit of a task which most of the people are concerned about but then you are paying your contractor for the work and you don't have to do it by yourself so why to be concerned about that. Also few contractors initially will say yes to whatever you say to get the project and then tend to lean towards vitrified tiles once they have to ready the floor because of ease of laying and to save some time. So, it is better to plan ahead what we want, it's our money and it should be our choice
