Simran wrote:I don't think manufactured sand (msand) is in anyway superior than natural river sand. If it was superior why people were using river sand for plastering? The talks about m sand for plastering came up only after the shortage/price hike of river sand. My neighbor used msand for plastering 2 months back and now it has many cracks. Finishing is like river sand only. I had almost decided to go ahead with alternatives like msand or bharathi plastering sand, but after seeing my neighbour's house I decided to proceed with river sand only.

Today I bought trichy sand 10 wheeler, body level load about 440cft for 60k. It was a good buy compared to others who were quoting 65k-80k.
Simran ofcourse natural river sand is always superior and nobody is debating that fact. The question is trichy sand has already incresed in price two folds and this has impacted the budget for many home builders and overtime msand is the alternative.

I beleive usage of all sands would give cracks in plastring and it also depends on quality of labor and proportion used. The reason for saying this for my neighbor nothing has happened for 2 yrs after using msand.

Dear All,

It's high time, we raise this issue to Govt to act and end this issue... This seems to be a nexus (some kind of mafia between concerned stakeholders...) for minting money from general public wherein we are being forced to pay a hefty price !!! Suggest, we post this issue to various online news channels and concerned authorities to quickly resolve it. Govt should provide us alternative solution and resolve it at the earliest. Not sure, how come big real estate developers and builders are managing or addressing this issue...

River sand is majorly used by One time and small conservative builders and owners mainly buy smuggled sand. The prices of which are driven by risk of illegal mining , demand and bribes.
Big Builders are early adopters of alternatives and moved on to RMC, M.Sand , Gypsum plaster etc. Kith and kin of leaders of state are at the helm of sand business and they are quite aware of the problems.
River sand is fast depleting Natural mineral , whose mining has severe environmental impact. If rate is scientifically determined based on Supply and demand and considering the environmental damage, it would be too exorbitant. Would State Govt do a fair job in fixing Sand price and efficiently distribute sand of required quality ?
Sand miners , Lorry owners are highly organized , there is a need for general public who are constructing houses to be organized. Lets use this forum to debate and come up with a proposal as to what Govt should do and what is expected out of govt.
