UPVC ones always stood expensive, with the basic models (no grills) - 50% higher. The new models with grills cost even much higher. I am sure everyones agrees that windows with grills are a necessity on the security point of view.
I got UPVC windows, they are expensive compared to wood windows. But they do look really nice and I hope they last long too. Another benefit is they are better insulated and lower maintenance (no need to paint regularly etc.)

unfortunate , I am assuming wooden shutters , window fixing is actually the main and difficult work it can comprise almost 80% of the total labour of shutter work, depending on what state of window shutters are. U will see how easily one can show the shutters on ground and abscond by taking full money and giving a picture that the shutter fixing is a small task.

a) just the shutters is done , only wood work, without hinge fixing and glass fixing ( 20% of labour)
b) glass is fixed .
c) setting is done and hinge is fixed, windows are marked( ie which window goes where).
d) high wire act of finally fixing the finished windows , with some final adjustments .
e) the windows marking is wrong or the marking is not understood by a different carpenter. (complication)
f) final fittings of handles and gate hooks and other accessories.

b to f can cost almost 80% of the shutter labour and if there is a complication ...?, what stage is ur shutters ? what did you pay ur carpenter psft?
