Is it safe to have washing machine in bathroom

Post by Stars »

Dear members,

We have a attached bathroom of size 4ft by 9ft.
9 ft sides are east to west. 4ft sides are north to south.

We r planning to have the washing machine in the bathroom. Please advice us the pros and cons of having it in bathroom?

Also, can u suggest me the layout of bathroom which can best accommodate the commodes, washbasin, bath area and washing machine.

Also, the placement of door which can optimize the space utilizations

Thanks in advance for the help.

Generally all Domestic Electrical appliances manufacturers strictly cautions the end users, not to place the electrical appliances like Washing machine, Dish waters...etc in a wet area like Bath Rooms or close to Sinks or an area where the ambient temperature is near to or below Zero degrees or an area where the rain water drops directly on the appliances ex areas like Balcony/terraces.

One of the reason is these areas contain high moisture which affects the functionality of the controller boards inside the device and also increases the chances of corrosion of the metal bodies. Another reason is to avoid Electrical hazards as water is a conductor or electricity. You can verify the same instructions in the Operating manual of your appliance.

Thanks for the reply msn1270.

I understand that bathroom is not a good place to have the washing machine placed.

The next option we can think of is our balcony where we can place it, but again it may rain and cause the problem in balcony.

Can someone suggest me precautions to take if at all washing machine is placed in balcony or bath room.

I would suggest to convert your bathroom into wet and dry concept. You can place the WM in dry area

Better to place the washing machine in balcony. All you need is a tap & a 16 Amp Power Point( in case of Front Load Machine, else standard 5 Amp Power Point is enough). To give cover from the Direct Sun light or Raining, you can give a side cover to the Balcony area using Fibre sheet to that area.

Some people even make a small covered provision in the terrace below the Over Head Tank area or utilize the area under the Stair Case for placing the washing Machines.
