which steel to use for construction

Post by mailchethan »

Need some info on which steel to use for columns and concrete slab. Indus and Tata Steel are too expensive, where as there are many other TMT steel manufacturers in market like Chamundi, Gopal, Apex? etc who are reasonable.... pls provide your inputs.

If you have budget use Tata/JWS steel for columns and pillars - and use any TMT for other usage.
Else use any TMT steel.

All steel have the same ductablity the difference lies in the raw materials used Indus doesnt use the scrap materials thats why there cost is in higher side.
You can go for Primegold & Meenaxshi steel if you are looking to be budget savy

But the question is why is everyone running around INDUS when Primegold & Meenaxshi steel is also TMT and costs almost 5000 rs less.Is it about the marketing or is there a strong technical reason ?

You are right.... do not know the real reason for Indus... even the bar bender suggests the same..... even Indus is manufactured from recycled steel... so do not the real reason.

But doest it really matter for a dwelling on a 30*40 or a 60*40 site even if there is a minor difference ?

Hi,

Initially I was also very much concerned over which steel to use, definitely Tata Steel and Indus steel would be good but then as some one said for 30*40 sites where the spans are not that long does it really the worth the extra money.

After all 90% of the houses are constucted with the not so top brand steel , 2 cents of my advice is to save money as you need lots during the finishing stages.. for tiling , interios etc.

The steel that is used for the construction is to decide the quality and strength of the building. We must choose the appropriate option that makes the building strong to avoid all the issues that may occur.
