Do we need 4 Sq.mm finolex cables for bore/sump motor?

Do we need 4 sq.mm finolex cables for bore/sump motors ?. One vendor suggested if sump motor is 1HP then better go for 4qm.mm and for bore motor some vendor suggested 4sq.mm and some suggested 2.5 sq.mm. They mentioned it will have problem if it is 2.5 sq.mm. Anybody has any suggestion??

In general, A single phase 1 HP motor typically takes about 8 Amps, while a 2.5 sq mm flat cable can carry a current of 15 amps. So 2.5 sq mm should be good enough for a 1 HP motor.

You need to look at the specifications of your motor to determine the current and look at the rated current of the cable you are planning to buy.

As one boarder suggests....for 1HP 2.5Sqmm will suffice. What is the depth of the well & the height of the building??? have you considered this in your "HP & the Stage" calculation????

my depth is 480 feet and 20 ft height of bulding and got quotation for 2HP, 25 stage motor....In all they mentioned as 2.5 sq.mm but some dealers quoted 4sq.mm.

How can trust the finolex cable bought are geniue one ?

2HP @ 25 stage will in all probabilities need 4SQmm & not 2.5 at all.

Yes, you could get that separately too. Finolex is the most envied brand, where every duplicate manufacturer would want to clone it. Buy it at a reputed dealer, who will also sell you the original finolex cable.

My suggestion is to go for 4 sqmm, V-Guard brand. Their insulation is triple layer & reasonable price.

We need 4 sq.mm cables for sump motor only when the length of the cable is more than 400 feet and the motor is 2 hp and above. I suggest you to buy cable made by ganapathi enterprises situated in BVK Iyengar road. His cable is named as meeco which is of very good quality and thickness of the cable is heavy. His cables are normally used by the agriculture borewell pumps which is meant for heavy duty. My another suggestion is, buy panel board from this shop only.

I recently got V-guard pump (2 HP, 19 stage) installed from a vendor in Wilson Garden. As part of the entire set I got V-guard start board, V-guard 2.5sqmm cable (installation of pump is at 285 feet). I am not sure if they sell cable alone. Here are contact details.

Thanks, but why it is 2.5Sq.mm cable, does this suffice as i got from some vendor 4 sq.mm/some 2.5 sq.mm and in the forum m3_07 also mentioned they need 4 sq.mm for 2HP motor.
