Have been hearing a bit and have read about ROBO or manufactured sand in some forums here too.
But, would like to hear reviews or experience of using this from first hand users.

How reliable is this ROBO sand compared to the strength of conventional natural sand?
Kindly advise the pros and cons of using this for construction.

Thanks and Rgds

Hi,
The strength of robo sand is equal to the strength of conventional sand.

Pros:
Doesn't contain silt.
Cheap.
Readily available.
Does not contain any human traces as per vaasthu.

Cons:
Peoples superstition.

Quality M- sand can be used for all construction activities. Refer IIT- madras report on M- Sand / robo sand.

Thank You Regards

Following are Manufactured/Artificial sand suppliers in Bangalore

http://www.robo.co.in/ -- Located in Bidadi , Roboplast is under R&D , Robo sand is avaialable
http://www.rocksand.in/ -- Mainly in AP , But have one unit in Bangalore. As of now it not working but will start in coming 2 months
http://www.bharathicement.com/mines-rock.aspx -- Located in Chickballapur , Plastering sand under R&D , Will be available by End of November
http://karnatakaenterprises.in/ -- They have plastering sand as well as normal sand both but expensive for me , might be due to distance , they quoted me around 55/cft
http://www.msand.in/ - Only in Kerala and TN

These manufacturers provides four types of products -
1) Manufactured sand for Concrete mixer used in RCC etc - Alternate of River sand
2) Manufactured sand for Concrete mixer used in Plastering - Alternate of River sand
3) 12mm , 20mm and 40mm jelly/Aggregate

Price for Manufactured sand is around 30/cft or 600/ton + Transportation charge around 3.5/Ton/KM + 5.5% Tax

Each ton of sand contains almost 20-22cft , almost same as River sand.

I called Bharti cement today , they sent sales guy with sample and visited a site where construction was going on. My site is around 60km from their Factory so they quoted 780/Ton (6 wheeler load containing around 20 tons or around 450 cft will cost around 15600 rs) including everything.

Planning to go with Manufactured sand. By the time i will require plastering , hopefully Plaster sand will be available.

Please provide your comments on same.

Thanks,

sreekbda wrote:ROBO sand is nothing but granite dust. Any supplier of construction material (i.e. bricks, jalli, size stones etc.) can either supply themselves or provide a contact who can supply. Probably you are asking for "Robo Sand" which they haven't understood. Just ask for quarry dust or granite dust.
Kindly do not confuse, Quarry dust is different from M-sand/ Robo-sand. Dust shouldn't be used for construction as its equivalent fine soil where you find cracks after construction.

@CityBrick -

Civil-Aid is provided by all manufactured sand suppliers. What details we should look into to compare the quality.

I placed order for M-Sand from Robo Silicon. It is 15,800/ for 450 cft (20 tons).

I visited a nearby site where they had delivered sand. The sand powder stuck to my hand after i touched it. Don't know whether this is a good thing or not.

Is it inclusive of tax and transportation. Robo quoted me 600 per ton + tax + Transportation (4/Ton/km). Where is your site located Like how far it is from factory i think factory is in Bidadi.
Was it fixed price or we can bargain? I got a quotation 0f 32 rs/cft including transportation from a supplier from TN (MHN Rock breaker - 9448265865) + 5% Tax if we need invoice. Still i feel its safe to go with brand like bharti (780/Ton including everything) as we don't know how to check its quality.

These days its too hard to get River sand as people selling Filter sand (Washed mud). I feel we are not left wid any way to verify. They mix pebbles etc in it so it should look like river sand , will pour some water so customer will believe that its coming from river , will put river sand on top of load and at bottom it will be filter sand. So we will end up wid getting filter sand only in most of cases which is very dangerous (Caused partial collapse of Prestige shantiniketan whitefield in 2008).

In case of apartment we don't have any control and they will build it wid filter sand only which results into cracks sooner or later.
But while building individual house we can avoid it by using M-Sand which is lab tested. So i am going to use it for sure.

Generally there shouldn't be any powered substance or clay power. Presence of silt or clay in river sand / m-sand leads to crack in the later stage after construction, wherein you get hairline cracks. So the percentage of silt in any sand should be lesser than 10%, river sand which has silt content lesser than 10% can be used for construction with out hesitation.
