Re: UPVC Windows - Suggestion & Feedback
We had installed LG make UPVC windows in 2013. Excellent quality. At that time LG was cheaper than Fenesta. Not sure how it is now.

Re: Solar UPS
Most of the solar installation can be done by yourself. First you need to asses what capacity you want and then find the roof space. If you want i can help with the assessment. I have done it all by myself: http://www.thealternative.in/lifestyle/bangalores-greenest-homes-the-house-that-has-no-elect...

Re: Fans that consume 50% less electricity
Hi ArdesArchitect, I purchased 7 fans for my home. It is about 1 year - I am happy with the fans. Yes, these fans do consume far less power (my UPS NEVER ran out of charge with superfan but older fans would last about 3-4hrs - multiple fans, 110AH, 875VA). Though I have not made a scientific study, ...

Re: Water purifier, softner for homes
I have purchased Ion Exchange/ZeroB softener. The service is very good (Mysore). 1yr+ no problems with hardware so far
They also give you a kit with which you can test the hardness yourself.

I am planning to get my completed sump coated with Dr.Fixit Safeguard Pro TDS. Epoxy
I have attached the PDF file from DrFixit site which is quite informative.

Re: Wooden steps and flooring
I have similar steps (steel frame+teak wood steps) . The local carpenter was able to join the steps and install it - it can be done easily; not very high-tech. I was told a joined piece would be cheaper than single piece of teak step
The steps are 1" thick.

Re: UPVC windows : Fimen vs Fenesta?
Another problem I noticed with casement windows (esp. outside opening types) is that they slam shut or 'flutter' during high-winds - in first floor for example.

Re: Solar powered homes from BORG
Borg certainly looks expensive. I was negotiating with Selco a few months ago. I think the pricing was around 97k (battery, PCU, panels etc). Solar hardware prices are dropping fast. Apparently in US, it has dropped 70% in 2-3 years. So maybe in another 2-3years, solar will be cheaper than our ESCOM...
