Thanks all we did create a separate sump just beside the existing one and connected it to the same pipe. Now we use both the sumps with an automated water level controller.

Thanks yogavelraj!! Yes we have done the same now. We have added a T junction so that the water fills up both the sumps but needs an additional motor which atleast fulfills the purpose without causing much hardships!!

I totally agree with msn1270 that chimneys are just for look and feel nothing else. I have an elica chimney with a 1000m3/hr with so called BAFFLE filter which i was told is very easy to clean.
