Structural engineers usually inspect the steel at footing and roofing stages..Architects would inspect a lot of design elements like pergola, cased entrance, stairs and the overall adherence to the design.

Have you considered the option of demolishing it and constructing from scratch?I already have 30x40 G.F 2 bhk west facing house with brick masonry load bearing wall construction.
Though a lot of engineers might not accept it, enhancing a structure of this kind, will limit the planning.

It is possible. The right way to decide, is to do a structural analysis. There are softwares available for the same..

PVC is a fire hazard.. I would not recommend PVC kitchen cabinets to anybody.

It is good that you replace the contractor.. I think the risk is minimal at this stage. I would suggest you take an independent opinion of a structural engineer.. He might be able to suggest remedies regarding the room. ask your contractor to not cast the slab until you get the opinion of a structur...

weather damage, pests etc will become a maintenance issue. See if you can pack it fully. If you have windows check if you can install a duct pipe with a duct fan for forced ventilation
